I took these photographs of my children in the 90s. I made these silver gelatin prints in 2015 for a group show at the International Center of Photography School.
I created a series of 97 images as a tribute to my mother, who, as she lay dying, described what she humbly called her simple life. The series was exhibited in 2014 as part of a group show at MANA Contemporary in Jersey City. Selected images from the series are displayed here.
To view a short video explaining the project, you may click on this link. The video includes audio from the remarkable conversation in which my mother described her “simple” life.
These photographs were taken in 2011 when the gels for the color of the lights had to be changed by hand.
I go back year after year to photograph the decorations at this mobile home park on Route 1 in New Jersey.
